Turkey, Japan to build $22 billion nuclear power plant in Turkey

ANKARA, Turkey, May 3 (UPI) — Japan and Turkey have agreed to build Turkey’s second nuclear power plant, a $22 billion project, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Friday.

It will take 10 years to build it the plant, Ergogan said at a news conference.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, visiting Turkey this week, met with officials including Turkish Economy Minister Zafer Caglayan, the Turkish newspaper Today’s Zaman reported.

“Negotiations between Turkey and Japan for a free-trade agreement should start immediately,” Caglayan said.

Turkey, which officials say is eager to diversify foreign trade, has signed free-trade agreements with 19 countries, including one that went into effect this week with South Korea, the newspaper said.
