Drug lord Cumhur Yakut captured in Istanbul, Turkey

ISTANBUL, Turkey, April 29 (UPI) — Law enforcement officers in Turkey have captured a suspected drug kingpin who has been wanted in the United States and by Interpol for 13 years.

Cumhur Yakut, known as the “father of godfathers,” is one of the four most-wanted drug dealers in the United States, Dogan News Agency said. He was discovered living in a mansion in Istanbul. When police raided the mansion with a large force of officers and a helicopter Friday, Yakut jumped off a high wall and broke both legs, police said.

Investigators said Yakut is wanted in connection with shipments of 1,150 pounds and 670 pounds of heroin seized in 2000 and 2001 respectively.
