IOWA CITY – University of Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz will have an opportunity evaluate his team over the next month as his team holds about 15 practices.

“Today is the start of the next phase, and one of the important phases we have, spring practice,” Ferentz explained at a Wednesday press conference in Iowa City.

The Hawkeyes finished the 2012 season with a 4-8 record, including a 2-6 mark in the Big Ten conference.

“I think we have a really veteran group there,” Ferentz said , referring to his offensive line. ‘Our receiver position I think is a year older.”

Ferentz said he is looking to shake things up this Spring with a possible practice to be held in Wes Des Moines.

“I do worry in spring ball a little bit, you know, left foot, right foot, left foot, you know, guys getting kind of like being one of those dogs on the dog sled train, whatever they call it. You’re the fourth dog, just looking at the other dog’s backside. So maybe break the routine a little bit.”
