AUSTIN, Texas, March 25 (UPI) — Rion Brown’s foul shots with 7.7 seconds left enabled second-seeded Miami-Florida to hold off Illinois 63-59 and advance in third-round NCAA Tournament play.
Brown’s free throws gave him 21 points for the game as the Hurricanes (29-6) moved on to the Sweet 16 for just the second time in the program’s history.
Brown canned five 3-pointers and grabbed five rebounds while Shane Larkin had 17 points and seven assists for Miami, which goes on to face third-seeded Marquette at the East Regional semifinals in Washington.
Brandon Paul paces the seventh-seeded Fighting Illini (23-13) with 18 points and Nnanna Egwu added 12 points and 12 rebounds.
