What’s next: The NIACC baseball team is scheduled to play a doubleheader at Marshalltown Community College on Thursday. The Trojans are scheduled open their ICCAC season Saturday and Sunday at Iowa Central in Fort Dodge.

Last time out: NIACC (8-2 overall) edged the Ontario Blue Jays 5-4 and topped Massasoit Community College 12-1 last Friday to wrap up its spring trip in Vero Beach, Fla.

Against the Blue Jays, sophomore right-hander Ean McNeal (Cedar Rapids, Ia.) improved to 2-0 as he didn’t allow an earned run, struck out 8 and walked 3 in five innings of work. Sophomore Max Waletich (Fairmont, Minn.) and freshman Brett White (Albany, Kent.) both collected two hits.

Against Massasoit, sophomore right-hander Lucas Bakker (Deception Bay, Australia) improved to 2-0 as he struck out 9 and walked 2 and didn’t allow an earned run in six innings of work.

Top of the league: Bakker and sophomore right-hander Joey Reed (Lindstrom, Minn.) are two of three pitchers in the ICCAC with at least 8 innings pitched that have a 0.00 earned run average.

Bakker has thrown 13 scoreless innings to start the season with 19 strikeouts and 2 walks. Reed’s scoreless inning streak is at 12 innings with 10 strikeouts and 3 walks.

Above average: Sophomore Tanner Unkel (Cedar Rapids, Ia.) is hitting .533 to lead the Trojans. Sophomore Robert Swenson (Mason City, Ia.) is hitting .455, Waletich is at .452 and freshman Jake Adams (Mason City, Ia.) is at .444.


What’s next: The NIACC softball team is scheduled to begin ICCAC play with a doubleheader at Southwestern (6-2 overall) in Creston on Saturday. The Lady Trojans play at Kirkwood (7-2 overall) in Cedar Rapids on Sunday.

Last time out: NIACC (5-3 overall) dropped a 4-3 decision to Delaware Technical and Community College and topped Lackawanna Community College 8-2 on March 15.

Against Lackawanna, sophomore Hailey Eckstein (Larsen, Wis.), freshman Paige Thompson (Gladbrook, Ia.) and freshman Katie Cameron (Almeda, Saskatchewan) all collected two hits and freshman Natalie Sinnwell (Nashua, Ia.) drove in 2 runs.

Torrid start: Sophomore Cassie Pappas (Mason City, Ia.) is hiting .609 with 6 home runs, 13 RBIs and a .609 on-base percentage. Also for the Lady Trojans, Eckstein is hitting .600 with 4 doubles, 5 RBIs and a .640 on-base percentage and Beth Mildenhall his hitting .481.


What’s next: The NIACC men’s and women’s track and field teams are scheduled to compete at the Grand View Relays in Des Moines on Saturday.


What’s next: The NIACC men’s and women’s golf teams are scheduled to open their seasons on Sunday and Monday.

The NIACC men will compete at the Kirkwood Invitational at Hunters Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Rapids. The NIACC women are set to compete at the William Penn Invitational at Honey Creek Resort in Moravia.
