FARC: We’re too serious to traffic cocaine

BOGOTA, March 18 (UPI) — Colombia’s largest rebel group denied Monday it owned 4 tons of cocaine captured last week, saying it was too “serious” an organization to do such a thing.

“This makes us laugh. We are a very serious, very responsible politico-military organization,” a member of FARC, who identified himself as “Rodrigo Granda.”

Granda added FARC was not a drug trafficker “but an organization raised in arms,” Colombia Reports said.

The cocaine was seized in a clandestine laboratory in western Colombia that was capable of housing 70 people, authorities said.

The army said the drugs were scheduled to be shipped to the United States by way of Mexico.

Colombia Reports said last week an anonymous source told it FARC has sold its drug trafficking franchises to the Mexican cartel Sinaloa in advance of a peace pact with the Colombian government.
