It happened last night in the 200 block of South Monroe. Go figure.

I heard this morning that the Pit had bitten off a finger. Don’t know if it is true or not, but it is what I heard. We have a neighbor that has Pit’s and every time his dog s get out they go to my other neighbor and try to attack her dogs. She is scared to death of leaving her little dog out. It will be a dead pit if it attacks my dog. I will shoot it and then call the police.

dogsbite.org good source of info disregard other article/site. This is a better source

I used to volunteer at the Human Society and guess what, a nice little Pit Bull bit me and I quit when I saw the Human Society trying to pass this dog off as a wonderful dog for a family. Also MrsS go to DAXTONSFRIENDS.COM and get educated.1. Thou shalt NEVER trust thy Pit Bull not to fight

DAXTONSFRIENDS.COM very great site to learn about dog breeds

Hey Missy,

How about you quit spamming this page / two year old article with your link.

I just spoke with the originator of this article and the website is current and gives very educated information about dog breeds. You don’t have to like it. I’ll post what I want and if it’s not against the publishers rules they’ll continue to post it. It’s a free country much to your chagrin.

Ban all pits so our children and innocent people can walk the parks or walk in thier yrds without fear.

Yes, it’s high time we reclaim our public space, our neighborhoods, our own back yards — ban all the pit bull type dogs.

I don’t see anything wrong with banning pitbulls and imprisoning those who would keep them. Sometimes you have to look out for those who are too stupid to look out for themselves.

Last week, in Walworth Wisconsin, a 30 year-old woman and her 14 month-old son were attacked by their own pit bulls. The little boy died. The woman will live…some life!

What’s it going to be like when a nut brings his agressive pit to the new dog park. Pits are a reason I’d never take my dog there.

Well, in Austin MN new dog park what happened is the pit killed another owners little toy dog in one bite.

That would be awful to see happen.

Nashville and many areas have laws banning fighting breed canines from dog parks. Nashville does not permit “Pit bulls or dogs having the physical characteristics of a the pit bull breed”. Now one could argue that pit bull is not a breed but still the point is, if it looks anything like a pit its banned. 😀

It took about a year for people to finally get it since then incidents and crime at the dog parks have dropped off and attendance has soared. Many citizens now feel comfortable telling people with pit like dogs to leave.

At first lots of pit owners would fight and people would back down, eventually the police got on board and started to enforce it. Some people look the other way, which is sad because I am sure even more people would go to the park if there was a 100% adherence to this very basic and very important rule.

Too late my dog was attacked already and I know of at least one other attack by a pit bull and pit bull cross.Had to take mine to the Vet. I tried to get her dog off mine but he kept trying to bite me too. The gal finally grabbed him off and yelled on her way out it was no big deal as her dog has killed plenty of other dogs so I was lucky. I was so concerned about my dog that I rushed him to the vet. So scary and I wanted to turn her in but had no info on her or her dog.

I was at the Humane Society last week as a volunteer. In the Stray Animal section of the facility the majority of dogs(8-10)were Pit Bulls or a Pit Bull mix. Most had signs posted on their kennels not to enter or touch the animal due to the unpredictably of their behavior. Just imagine, these dogs were running loose or abandon when picked up by Animal Control. Scary.

Those signs are not for unpredictability, a lot of those dogs are injured or have just had a surgical procedure. I know one says not to put your fingers in kennel, & you shouldn’t do that with ANY dog. I got bit by putting fingers in the kennel of a MALTESE! Needed 3 stitches! I really would love to know why the media insists on sensationalizing bites made by this wonderful breed & NO OTHER DOG BITES ARE PUBLICIZED?! THE MEDIA is at total fault for the stereotypes these dogs have. I volunteer at the shelter & NONE of those dogs are dangerous, putting that on here is a death sentence for good family dogs!!! How dare you speak about the temperment of dogs you have never even met?!! Pitbulls are good dogs, mine are proof of that & so are the ones at the shelter.

Really? why would you have any pet where you couldn’t put your fingers in the cage? No pet should attack humans, I know a lot of mentally ill people think it is cool to have deadly or dangerous animals.

About 40% of pets are kennel aggressive, the most common kennel aggressive dog is a large breed, labs, German Shepards, Huskies, Boxers, Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, Great Dane, & so on. So my Maltese bite was out of the ordinary, can I have my sob story on here about my dog bite? I actually have 2 dogs that are/were kennel aggressive. It can be changed with the right responsible loving owner. One of mine is now fine crated & the other is still a work in progress. Writing false information about why those signs are there is ignorant & shouldn’t be tolerated by any media site. I have personally walked & handled all of the dogs at our shelter & they are all great pets & have a lot of love to give. Slandering pets is a new low & you should be ashamed of it.

MrsS is making things up. I worked at a shelter before the pit bull plague began. Only about 1% of the dogs that came in had to be handled some special way because of aggression — and I mean even including fear aggression.

She’s also lying about what the ‘do not touch’ signs on pit bull type dog cages mean. I doubt she’s ever really worked in a shelter. Everyone who does or has must know about the ASPCA special protocol for handling pit type dogs in a shelter environment. Some main points:

1) Always kennel them alone.
2) Make sure the cages are such that the pit can’t escape and the cages have shields such that the pit bull CAN’T GRAB ANOTHER DOG OR PERSON through the bars or by chewing through said shield.
3) Never interact alone with a pit bull, always at least two staff members present.
4) Install panic buttons in all spaces where humans interact with pit bulls.

Sadly Lisbeth MRSS may be telling a little truth there as I too volunteered at the Mason City Iowa Human Society but quit when a pit bull bit me and they actually billed this dog as wonderful in their adoption paper after I was bit. Also they don’t adhere to any of the rules you’ve stated. Feel free to turn them in to the apropriate agency as I know for a fact they are in violation if what you state is correct.

The Pit Bull that bit me did not break skin so they did not put it down but I did ask them to make sure whomever adopted the dog be told and not to let it around children

@lisbeth, I’m with you on this issue. I would follow those guidelines not so much because of the breed but because of some of the habits of owners of pits. Many of those owners train their pits to be aggressive, don’t get proper licensing or vacines etc.. So combined with that and pit aggresive traits they are a high risk dog. Sad but true.

@anonymous854-I am a dog lover and always have been. I have owned several different types of dogs with one being a Rot and another Doberman (I really loved that dog). She was a great dog but we always watched her very closely around people because when was bred ti be a guard dog and would attack if one of the family was threatened. Out Rot was just a sweet lovable dog but the same deal as the Doberman. The point is the dogs were bred to be protective and a Pit Bull is bred to fight. When something trips their trigger they will attack and can do serious damage. Irresponsible people should not be allowed to own one but you can’t stop that so the only thing left is to ban the breed.

You are so right LVS!!

Say NO to removing dogs from loving homes, say YES to having a two tiered licensing system. If you want a pit, prove you can handle one.

That’s a good idea — with some sort of proof of insurance on the yearly license fee.

Yesterday in Louisiana, a 54 year-old woman was attacked by three of her own pit bulls. By the time police could get to her, they had torn off both of her arms, an ear and one eye. She’s going to live…some life!

Sanchez…they were her OWN dogs!

When was the last time you heard of 3 other types dogs attacking it’s owner? NEVER. What part of “unpredictable” and more “potential” to attack than other breeds don’t you understand? How many more little kids have to die before people like you admit pits are prone to vicious attacks for NO good reason?

Anonymous, the pit fanatics are never going to admit it — and we don’t need them to. What we need is for our elected officials to step up and ban all pit bull type dogs, and enforce these bans.

So true!

This latest incident is quite close to my home. I pity the owners of a dog, whatever breed that attacks me or my dog while I’m out walking. I will have my attorney attacking them, in court!

I disagree with taking these dogs out of their homes because of a few bad apples.
A good way to sort these dogs out would to be able to have a behavior evalutaion done at the humane society on all pitbulls before being able to get their city liscense.
This could be a money maker for the humane society and a way to keep families and the general public safe from aggressive pitbulls.

A lot of cities force the owners to have liability insurance on there dogs. That way if somone gets bit it will pay for medical cost. It’s up to the person bitten if they want to sue.

I’d rather have the dogs checked than having them run the streets with liability insurance. That’s not preventing the problem, that’s dealing with the problem after it happens

Problem with that is they’re unpredictable. Owners of biter/attackers have said the dogs had been gentle in the past. Then one day they went balistic.

what your trying to imply is that aggression in a pitbull or signs of one being a aggressive are unforeseeable. This dog for instance may have been unfamiliar with its surroundings or spooked by the person.

Explain why a family pit wuld all of a sudden attack a 3 yr. old and kill the child? The kid pulled it’s tail?! Don’t bother trying to explain away bad behavior in any dog. Any “family pet” that kills a child is the one at fault not the child or other family member it bit or killed.
If a dog attacks when “spooked” there’s something wrong with the dog.

you are arrogantly talking about this. if you spook a horse what does it do? run.. if someone breaks into your house what do you do?
if a dog gets scared it can become aggressive or develop behavior problems to what spooked them

if your vacuuming the floor most dogs get scared and try to bite the vacuum, its a normal behavior in any animal…some people have certain things that tick them off and so do dogs

Comparing a horse to a dog. Moot and ludicrous.
Biting a vacume cleaner. Never had a dog do that. Most isn’r a treu number. A few might be more like it. Dogs who do that need some training. And biting a cleaner due to sudden noise is different than chewing the arm off a 3 yr. old for no reason.
A dog being protective when someone breaks into a house is also a different matter.
Why do you think some people get certain breeds for protection or for certain use? Their inborn traits and how well they can be trained for a designated purpose. Problem with pits is many of them are unkowingly defective and have inborn agression.

Agree with anonymous. Pits are genetically bred with aggressive and unpredictable traits. They are, if not kept in check, natural born killers.Big problem in Mason City is there are a lot of totally irresponsible Pit Bull owners who lack any education about the breed they own. Just wish their home owners insurance knew who they were so they would raise their insurance rates. Most Home owners insurance companies will either raise insurance rates or refuse to insure with good reason.

No dog i’ve ever owned has bit my vacuum. What kind of vacuum cleaner do you have? Is it made of rawhide lol

What about the ones that are gotten as puppies and always appears gentle then at 2-3 yrs old attacks family members? There’s no way to check for that.

Now we have to read all that crap again. Ban them from the city and forget it.

Now I’m scared-sissy.

No shit, this is America, speak English or leave jackass.

Carlo………what would happen? I’m interested.

Let your “pup” bite my kid. See what happens.

Carlo would assault somebody, they would run his name and there would be an ICE hold?

I’d get a CC permit. Ilove dogs but I don’t like being attacked or walking in fear.

Manly has a ban on them but they don’t enforce the law. Still about a dozen in town. The next time I see one walking down the street I might see how fast they are.
