SIOUX FALLS, S.D., March 17 (UPI) — Two people drowned in a river in South Dakota while trying to rescue a 6-year-old boy who fell into the river, officials said. The boy survived the incident.
Lyle Eagletail, 28, of Sioux Falls, and Madison Wallace, 16, of Vermillion, died after entering the Big Sioux River at Falls Park Thursday afternoon in an effort to save Garrett Wallace, 6, Madison’s younger brother, the Argus Leader, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported.
Eagletail’s body was recovered Saturday, a short ways down stream from where he entered the river. Madison Wallace’s body was found Friday.
The recovery efforts were hindered by the cold, murky waters, said Sioux Falls Fire Rescue Division Chief Jeff Helm.
Garrett Wallace, who fell in the river near a pedestrian bridge, was either helped from the river or managed to get out himself and survived the incident.
