NEW YORK, March 17 (UPI) — Kentucky, Alabama, Southern Mississippi and Virginia each landed a No. 1 seed in National Invitation Tournament selections released Sunday.
In first-round action starting Tuesday, Alabama will host Northeastern, Southern Mississippi will entertain Charleston Southern and Virginia will play Norfolk State in Charlottesville.
Kentucky, meanwhile, will travel to Robert Morris for its first-round contest.
Other first-round games include Mercer at Tennessee, Stephen F. Austin at defending NIT champion Stanford, Ohio at Denver, Niagara at Maryland and St. John’s at Saint Joseph’s.
Also slated for the opening round are North Carolina-Charlotte at Providence, Detroit at Arizona State, Long Beach State at Baylor and Louisiana Tech at Florida State.
Washington, an NIT semifinalist in 2012, will be at Brigham Young, Indiana State will visit Iowa and Stony Brook will travel to Massachusetts, which was also a 2012 semifinalist.
