Sex offender fears for her life in prison

SHAWNEE, Okla., March 13 (UPI) — Kimberly Crain, former Oklahoma elementary school teacher convicted of sex crimes against children, told a judge she fears for her life in prison.

Crain, 50, who taught the third grade in the McCloud Public Schools of McLoud, Okla., pleaded guilty in January to 20 sex crimes, and has written several letters to Pottawatomie County, Okla., District Judge John Canavan while awaiting sentencing, the (Oklahoma City) Oklahoman reported Wednesday.

One letter, dated March 7, claims inmates at Mabel Bassett Correctional Center, in McLoud, Okla., have been following her case “on the Internet and were waiting on me to come. One of the ladies has grandkids in McLoud schools. Honestly, I’m scared to death.”

The letters ask Canavan to consider probation for her, instead of jail time, the newspaper said, noting her co-defendant in the trial, former Oklahoma Baptist University Professor Gary Doby, received 25 years in prison for the same crimes.
