Mom charged with getting girl into fight

UPPER DARBY, Pa., March 13 (UPI) — A Philadelphia-area woman has been charged with offenses including assault for allegedly strong-arming her 12-year-old daughter into a fight with another girl.

Michele Davenport, 45, of Clifton Heights, was being held in lieu of $35,000 bail, KYW-AM, Philadelphia, reported. Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood released a cellphone video Wednesday showing the fight at an elementary school playground during the weekend — including Davenport’s alleged role in the altercation.

Davenport has been charged with assault and corruption of a minor among other things, WCAU-TV, Philadelphia, reported. Her daughter, who is now staying with her father, has been charged as a juvenile with simple assault.

The video shows Davenport delivering an obscenity-laced tirade at the other girl, who was also 12. She also ordered her daughter to keep fighting.

At one point, both girls tried to halt the fight, Chitwood said.

“You can see that the kids really don’t want to fight, but the mother is so adamant and profane that eventually the 12-year-olds get in a fight,” Chitwood said in a news conference Wednesday.

Both girls were injured, he said.

“You’ve got her daughter with a bloody nose. You’ve got the other kid with a concussion, all because the mother acted like a moron, pure and simple,” Chitwood said.
