Mexican man sent to prison for illegally entering U.S., driving drunk

SIOUX CITY – A man who illegally re-entered the United States from Mexico was sentenced on March 7, 2013, to seven months in federal prison.

Isael Ramirez-Hernandez, age 22, from Mexico, received the prison term after a January 29, 2013, guilty plea to one count of illegal re-entry.

At the guilty plea, Ramirez-Hernandez admitted he was last deported from the United States on February
26, 2010. Ramirez-Hernandez came to the attention of Homeland Security Investigations’ (HSI) on November 1, 2012, while he was incarcerated in the Woodbury County, Iowa Jail for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Ramirez-Hernandez was sentenced in Sioux City by United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett.
Ramirez-Hernandez was sentenced to 7 months’ imprisonment. He must serve a one year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.

Ramirez-Hernandez is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
