George P. Bush now a candidate in Texas

FORT WORTH, Texas, March 13 (UPI) — George P. Bush, elder son of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, has announced he is a candidate for land commissioner in Texas.

Bush is the first in his generation in one of the best-known U.S. political dynasties, to seek elective office. He made the announcement of his candidacy Tuesday by Twitter, The Houston Chronicle reported.

Like the rest of the family, he is a Republican.

In a short message he posted on YouTube, Bush said Texas’s general land office is responsible for areas he cares about, including veterans. Bush is a veteran of the U.S. Navy. “We respect and honor our veterans,” he said. “We know the men and women in our military deserve nothing but the best from each and every one of us.”

George Prescott Garnica Bush, 36, has a name that links him to his great-grandfather, U.S. Sen. Prescott Bush, R-Conn., his grandfather, President George H.W. Bush, and his uncle, President George W. Bush. He is currently a lawyer in Fort Worth.

Karl Rove, a key aide to the second President Bush, gave the new candidate his blessing in an email to the Chronicle: “All for him. Great talent, wonderful character, tremendous ability.”
