VENTURA – Early Wednesday morning, around 5:30 AM, a rollover on Highway 18 about one mile west of Ventura was reported.
At the scene, the female driver of a Jeep that rolled after hitting an icy patch on the highway refused medical attention.
A Iowa State Trooper who was helping the female to a friend’s vehicle pulled onto Apple Avenue off of Highway 18, and got stuck in a large snow drift.
The friend of the driver, who preferred not to give names, said, “She was on her way to work and rolled. She didn’t want medical attention, although she is a little sore. The State Trooper tried to bring her to me and got stuck behind me.”

“Because of this late season, wintry weather, we have been extremely busy,” said Tony’s Tire, Truck and Towing. “It has been hectic.”

My favorite “Troopers aren’t always thinking clearly” moment was last spring. I was headed south in I35. There was an IHP patrol car stuck in the median. The car was up to the rocker panels in mud. The officer had clearly attempted to makea u-turn and got caught up.
Maybe if the plows wouldn’t spend so much time plowing parking lots the roads would be clear.
Apple Ave. is on a hill and in a vast open area. That turn off in road isn’t high traffic so wouldn’t take more than an hour or so AFTER plowing for it to be drifted in again. But if criticizing the plow drivers who spend multiple hours plowing makes you feel big and better keep talking your ignorant smack.
Better buy them all new 4x4s now. Iowa has all kinds of money.
