Hampton Mayor Dietz: It’s time to end Fluoride in Hampton

Medical decisions should be between you and your healthcare professional, not your government.

In 1975, the Hampton City Council approved an ordinance authorizing fluoridation of the public water supply, and in late 2005 an effort was made to repeal this ordinance. On Monday, March 11, 2013, I will ask the Hampton City Council to revisit this issue and direct the City Attorney to again draft an ordinance to repeal 1975’s order. Whether you believe ingesting fluoride is good for you or not, the truth is the current practice amounts to forced medication of Hampton’s citizens. As someone who believes in the spirit of individual liberty, I cannot see my first term as Hampton’s Mayor expire later this year without an effort to stop this practice that is a heinous intrusion on your rights.

I have sent letters to Hampton’s three dental care providers; Dr. Alquist, Dr. Moore, and Dr. Sensor advising them of my request of the Council to reconsider this subject so that they too may have their voices heard on this matter. Agree or disagree, I continue to believe that all voices should be allowed in the debate.

I would now ask that if you or any other citizens of Hampton you know are opposed to the continued fluoridation of our water supply that you would attend Monday’s special council meeting. It’s an important discussion, but it’s not an easy one. All voices will be heard, and at the end of the day it is my goal for will of the people of Hampton to be done, and not that of the American Dental Association.

The meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, March 11, 2013 and will be held in City Council Chambers. The full agenda for the meeting can be found on the City of Hampton’s website by clicking here.

For Liberty,

Shawn Dietz
Mayor
Hampton, Iowa

All those who claim to “Stand with the mayor” should have been at the meeting on Monday night to help stand against the “dental elite” in Hampton. It’s easy to stand with him on some chat board. See you at the next council meeting to end this forced medicating of the masses…of Hampton.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, 1999, 2001) has now acknowledged that the mechanism of fluoride’s benefits are mainly topical, not systemic. There is no need whatsoever, therefore, to swallow fluoride to protect teeth. Since the purported benefit of fluoride is topical, and the risks are systemic, it makes more sense to deliver the fluoride directly to the tooth in the form of toothpaste. Since swallowing fluoride is unnecessary, and potentially dangerous, there is no justification for forcing people to ingest fluoride through their water supply.

Moreover, the public water supply should never have been used to deliver medicine. Once added to the water you cannot control the dose, you cannot control who gets the medicine and it violates the individual’s right to informed consent to medicine. Medical professionals should be ashamed to support such a crude and unethical practice.

Does Mason City do this?

Is there a pharmacist in the house?

Manly Ia. could save approx. 25,000 dollars a year if we stopped this practice – overtime for 2 city employees -EVERY sunday morning 4 hours double time -and add the cost of this poison – WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR? – stop this practice

Ah. another government ceprocephalic – stop this nonsense at once hell even the chinese bans this chit – and as you know their children are smarter than us fluorided US kids.

Topical application on fluoride, as long as it is not ingested, can be a benefit to your teeth. It’s safe as long as it is used on children and adults and not on toddlers and pregnant women.

It’s still a dangerous substance. Don’t ingest it!

Even the EPA, of all idiot government agencies, has set limits on the maximum levels of fluoride. They call it a contaminate.

The Nazis during and before WWII used fluoridation to test it in the name of Eugenics. It affects the central nervous system causing lower IQ, ADHD, and some cancers.

Basically fluoride dumbs you down and slowly kills you.

If you want to keep ingesting it then go ahead and do so, it’s your body. The question being posed is whether the government should be forcing a person to ingest it simply by putting in the water system that every city resident gets their water source from. And Yes, the city IS a government just like the county, state or federal government. These are elected officials that make and vote on legal law. Please read for yourself about this, the information is out there. All you have to do is look for it. Make your own decision.

Even the EPA, of all idiot government agencies, says that flouridation is a contaminate and has set a maximum acceptable level for it in drinking water for regulation.

The Nazis used flouridation before and during WWII and tested the effects of it, calling it Eugenics. It leads to lower IQ, ADHD, and some cancers. It also affects the central nervous system.

Basically it dumbs you down and slowly kills you.

If you don’t believe it then go ahead and keep ingesting it. Topical application does have some benefit at certain levels but the ingestion of flouride as a benefit is a myth. It’s your body but the question is whether a person should be forced to drink it by the government putting it in the water. And Yes, the city IS a government just like the county, state and federal. There are many articles and documentaries about this subject all you have to do is look. Inform yourself on issues.

This is a US government study summary about the harmful effects of flouride.

It sounds like a good time to open up a dental practice in Hampton.

Why, your toothpaste doesn’t contain flouride?

@FriedBrains-If your so damn smart why are you on welfare. Your so stupid you have to roll out a ball of string to find the bathroom. Go smoke another joint. That’s all you learned in college

Zip up your fly before your little brain falls out.

Yes, but you simply do not understand Iowa stubborn. You could show fluoride in the drinking water causes cancer and it would STILL be difficult to stop it. People like doing things because they’ve always done them that way in Iowa. It doesn’t really matter if that thing is wrong or not, at all.

It reminds of when Sheriff Kevin Pals was asked about medical marijuana and all he could say was, “Well, it’s been illegal for 100 years”.

Iowans are very stubborn and will never admit being wrong.

Just the conservatives, brick. They’re always right doncha know. And perfect angels to boot. Don’t ever discuss any issue with them or offer a different view. You’ll be catagorized as lazy,on drugs and ignorant.

Yes, looks like LVS called me all 3 in this thread alone.

Have any real data to back that up?

Carol Patnode is correct the use of fluoride in drinking water has been determined to have many issues. Thyroid gland is one of them.

Many things eaten, used and events practiced as everyday good habits years ago are now being found out to be harmful for us. Glad this mayor has enough cajones to speak out and attempt to change things.

Mayor Dietz is correct – fluoride is a drug and it should be a personal choice to ingest it, not forced on us because it is in the water we drink. In addition, it may be of interest to the public that there are numerous studies that indicate fluoride is associated with the lowering of IQ – and putting it in the water is not worth such a risk. If I lived in Hampton, I would be proud to stand beside Mayor Dietz on this issue.

They’re on to us, the jig is up. Fluoride is the prime ingredient in Prozac. Of course it’s forced medical care and this kids a hero. Does MC do this?

“Medical decisions should be between you and your healthcare professional, not your government.”

Exactly the same reason why government needs to stay out of medical marijuana.

Would using city water that has been treated with fluoride give me the munchies?

The reasons given are not exactly the same either, unless you are stoned now.

Huh? Do these issues need to be identical for you to understand anything. Munchies? What, do you think it’s funny how the government dictates health care?

No, actually I found it odd that you compared the two issues. Fluoride in the Hampton waster system would appear to be a city level issue.

Good grief. Where did you get your chemistry degree, brickfb? You’re plumb nuts!

University of Iowa. I hold two degrees.

@FriedBrains-If your so damn smart why are you on welfare. Your so stupid you have to roll out a ball of string to find the bathroom. Go smoke another joint. That’s all you learned in college.

B4B, now we know you’re a liar. There is no fluoride in Prozac. You read that myth at the same sites you read that marijuana is safe and that margarine is one molecule away from plastic. Right?

@LVS You call someone dumb while making grammatical errors. Way to prove “your” point. This is why your input is generally disregarded by the literate.

@Literate-Being literate does not make you intelligent. Who cares what a dummy like you thinks.

People who can spell and don’t rely on name calling like a 6 year old to make their point?

@Literate-then why did you start it?
