Statement by Senators Pam Jochum, Amanda Ragan, and Jack Hatch after meeting today with Governor Branstad on the prospect of helping 150,000 uninsured Iowans –
We asked for a meeting with Governor Branstad because Iowa has the opportunity to provide health insurance for 150,000 Iowans who are now living without health insurance.
Today in our meeting, the Governor told us that he does not have a plan, and will not have a plan for weeks. The governor also rejected our proposal of a bipartisan working group with legislators and his staff.
We won’t give up on this opportunity to take a major step forward for Iowa.
We will continue to work with Republicans and Democrats in the Iowa House and Senate.
