ST. PAUL – A Minnesota legislator doesn’t think very highly of the gay and lesbian lifestyle.
Striking back at legislation introduced in the Minnesota Legislature this week for marriage equality, state Minnesota Rep. Glenn Gruenhagen said “It’s an unhealthy, sexual addiction.”
According to a report in the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Gruenhagen, a Republican, said he has a friend who ran a sexual addiction clinic. “He helped many homosexuals and other people come out of the lifestyle.”
“When we talk about gay marriage, we are not talking about an immutable characteristic, like the color of your skin.” Gruenhagen said. Referencing a decade- old genome study, he added: “There is no gay gene. The concept that there is a gay gene is an unscientific lie.”

That sir is incorrect. Under Federal and some state laws, they are not afforded the same exact things married people enjoy. They may not inherit their partner’s property as everyone else does. They do not get the same tax benefits as everyone else does. They are not even allowed Social Security or other types of retirement benefits as married people do.
Is that equal under the law?

I suggest you look at years of scientific research on the subject. Talk to the clinicians who have worked with Gays and Lesbians for years about how their self-identity is some sort of choice, or an excuse. Examine the reasons why the APA has after careful study decided that being a homosexual is not a mental illness or defect of character.

Explain to us what special rights they expect? That they be treated as equals under the law? You twist words or make up ideas just as they did back in the days before civil rights laws came into effect.
What next? Separate but equal? Yeah, that worked great in the South didn’t it? I can see it now, Homosexuals to the back of the bus, or have their own restrooms, or lunch counters. Yet, that is exactly what you espouse. Warped thinking of equality.

That kind of thinking is not, repeat, not what is at issue. I am not a homosexual, nor do I personally find that kind of life acceptable.
However, the issue here is if we should treat all human beings equally under the law. Our Constitution says we should, and we must. Case after case proves that point out.
For the sake of argument, what if this Legislator made his comments about blacks, or Jews, or bachelor Norwegian farmers, or Hispanic? That they do not deserve equal treatment under the law? Because he thinks their lifestyle is unhealthy, or unjust, they should be shunned from the rights we all enjoy?
What group would be next? Who becomes the next pariah?
There are people who use Alcohol. There are people who partake of tobacco products. There are people who use illegal drugs. There are people who eat Lutefisk. Do we also suspend their civil rights and due process of law because we do not like what they are doing?
Nay, the wording and meaning is clear, equal under the law. Not your opinion of the law, not your interpretation of the law, but the precedent made by the courts, as it is their constitutional right and jurisdiction.
Homosexuality is Not normal.
Society is being brainwashed to accept a perverted lifestyle that totally defies nature. What is odd is how many dumb people there are that actually believe the BS that is being pushed by the lame stream media and Hollywood.

Horse hocky. People can have “addiction to sex” but that’s not what “causes homosexuality”. Many young people notice they are homosexual before they are even old enough to have addiction to sex.
And “addictions” are “effects” not “causes.” If you really were a counselor you’d know that to be the case and truth. I’d say you’re a poor excuse for a counselor if you don’t know that fact. Low self worth leads to addictions. Your “patients” may have had low self worth and were easy targets for those who prey on the weak.

Making same sex unions legal is one thing. However if one looks at history it has been the “acceptance” of homosexuality as a norm that has been a pitfall for prior cultures.

In a book by Anne Wilson Schaef, “When Society Becomes An Addict” she correctly lays out the destructive path we go down that gives rise to all kinds of beliefs that are sic. Homosexuality is one of them.
The fact that this politician is only stating the obvious should be taken seriously by rational adults.
Sexual addiction is a very serious disorder.
Homosexuality is clearly part of that. When and if it is found that mankind is born with this malady it then can be defined as a birth defect. Until then, it is a mental illness that society must deal with in a sensible way.
Teaching young children it is “normal” amounts to misleading our youth and tempting them with experimentation during their formative years. This again validates Minnesota Rep. Glenn Gruenhagen as unhealthy. I find it abusive to children.
Parents need to guild their children accordingly.

How is being gay an unhealthy, sexual addiction? I know a number of gay people, and many of them are happy, healthy, and are enjoying life to the fullest. If a persons sexual preference is so life altering, why do we have so many hetrosexual people shooting others, using drugs, abusing children, committing suicide? If being straight is an requisite to being healthy, maybe being gay isn’t so bad after all.

And it’s not “sick”. It’s a variation of normal. When something like 9% of the population engages in homosexual behavior, that’s just as normal as being left-handed. They used to try to get kids to not be left-handed, either, because they thought that was “sick”. It turns out that left-handed people are often extremely gifted and talented, same as homosexuals.

I disagree that there is not a scientific basis for homosexuality and gender identity issues. There is a lot of scientific evidence in the human world and anecdotal evidence in the animal world that hormonal exposure in the womb can influence the sexuality.

I am always amazed at the crassness of some people. I was reared in a bubble where, until I was in my 20’s, I thought everyone in the world was polite and moral except for one bully.
