Florida felon undone by ‘I voted’ sticker

MIAMI, Feb. 23 (UPI) — A Florida felon was in legal trouble again after showing up at meeting with her probation officer sporting an “I voted early” sticker, state authorities said.

Charges of voter fraud were filed against Onakia Griffin, 33, of Pompano Beach, who was not allowed to vote in the November election due to her status as a convicted felon.

Assistant State Attorney Eric Linder said at Griffin’s court appearance Friday the woman admitted she had indeed voted early and, more importantly, had failed to list herself as a convicted felon when she registered to vote in June.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel said Griffin’s identification was electronically checked by election officials when she cast her ballot but no red flags came up.

Griffin was on probation for a federal conviction on identity theft and wire fraud charges, court records indicated.
