Three NIACC wrestlers will wrestle for fifth

DES MOINES – NIACC’s Basil Minto, Shakheim Chapman and Alex Stockton all dropped their consolation semifinal matches at the NJCAA national wrestling tournament Saturday at the Jacobson Exhibition Center on the Iowa State Fairgrounds.

Minto dropped a 2-1 decision to Southwestern Oregon’s Reid Chivers at 184 pounds. Minto (26-4) faces North Idaho’s Caleb Rivera in the fifth-place match Saturday afternoon.

At 197 pounds, Chapman was pinned by North Idaho’s VJ Giulo, who is ranked No. 1, in 3 minutes, 54 seconds. Chapman (22-11) faces Iowa Central’s Brandon Bradney for fifth-place.

At 285 pounds, Stockton fell to Iowa Central’s Christop Ballard, 6-3. Stockton (16-14) takes on Muskegon College’s Brett Martin for fifth place.

In the semifinals Saturday morning at 184 pounds, Minto dropped a 2-1 double overtime decision to Cody Johnson of Labette Community College.

At 197 pounds, Chapman lost a 9-4 decision to Western Wyoming’s Riley Argyle.

At 285 pounds, Clackamas Community College’s Jacob Mitchell took a 16-4 major decision from Stockton.
