Tufts dean upset by disgusting students

BOSTON, Feb. 20 (UPI) — The dean of students at Tufts University has slammed students who threw up indiscriminately and urinated in public areas during a recent annual winter festival.

Bruce Reitman said “rude, arrogant” students “threw up all over” the Westin Copley Place hotel during the school’s Winter Bash, the Boston Herald reported Wednesday.

Reitman expressed his disgust in an op-ed article published Tuesday in the school’s daily newspaper.

He said “several students” attempted to interfere with event staff.

“I am referring also to the rude, arrogant individuals who apologized for disdainful behavior towards several Tufts staff by saying, ‘Sorry, I thought you worked for the hotel,'” Reitman added. “I am referring also to the myriad students who threw up all over the place and everyone who thought it was OK for the hotel staff to clean up the mess. And I’m referring to the male student and the female student who decided that urinating in the middle of the lobby was OK.”

Medical workers stationed at the event treated 11 patients, said Jennifer Mehigan, spokeswoman for Boston Emergency Medical Services, told the Herald.

Six of the patients were transferred to the hospital, Mehigan said, adding that extra ambulances, including private ambulances had to be called in to handle the number patients.

Reitman said 15 to 20 students were treated in the medical triage room.

The dean said Tufts officials are considering whether to cancel the event in future years.
