Woman allegedly bites off man’s tongue

CHICAGO, Feb. 18 (UPI) — A Valentine’s date in Chicago ended up bloody after a woman allegedly bit off part of her boyfriend’s tongue when he kissed her after a fight, officials said.

Authorities charged Elaine Cook, 51, with aggravated domestic battery and she was being held in lieu of $100,000 bond, the Chicago Tribune reported Monday.

Prosecutors said the woman went out Thursday for a date with her boyfriend, whose name was not reported. When the two returned to Cook’s apartment, they began to fight and she demanded that he leave, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

The boyfriend, 47, put on his shoes, but tried to resolve the conflict before leaving, assistant state’s attorney Eve Reilly said.

“He told her they should stop fighting and went to kiss her and she bit off a large portion of his tongue,” Reilly said.

Cook allegedly threw the piece of tongue onto a kitchen counter and the boyfriend put it on ice. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital. Doctors could not reattach the tongue portion because of poor blood supply, the Tribune reported.

The man said he doesn’t want to see Cook’s life ruined by the incident.

“It makes me sick to my stomach that she’s sitting in jail right now, but it’s just out of my hands,” he said. “I have to focus on getting better now.”
