NIACC’s distance medley team places 12th at Iowa State Classic

AMES – The NIACC men’s distance medley relay team placed 12th in a time of 10:44.51 at the Iowa State Classic on Friday.

The Trojans’ foursome was Matt Bowman, Nako Omot, OJ Ojullu and Jonny Worley.

Also Friday, sophomore Trent Smith was 13th in the 5,000-meter run in 15:10.54.

Freshman Mason Powers (Gilbert, Ia.) was 23rd in the 5,000 in a personal best time of 15:30.93, which qualified him for the NJCAA national indoor meet. Powers’ previous personal best was 15:59.08 at the Iowa State Open in January.

Sophomore Trey Taylor placed 16th in the weight throw with a toss of 41 feet, 5 1/4 inches.

Worley placed 22nd in the mile in a personal best time of 4:22.21. The 4:22.21 qualified Worley for the NJCAA national indoor meet in March.NIACC returns to action Feb. 15-16 at the Region XI meet in Decorah.

NIACC indoor national qualifiers to date:


Distance medley relay – 10:33.62 (ranked third in NJCAA).

800 – OJ Ojulu, 1:58.02 (20th in NJCAA).

1,000 – Jonny Worley, 2:38.55 (ranked 37th in NJCAA); Matt Bowman, 2:40.14 (46th in NJCAA).

Mile – Worley, 4:22.21 (6th in NJCAA).

3,000 – Trent Smith, 8:44.92 (8th in NJCAA).

5,000 – Smith, 14:58.36 (3rd in NJCAA); Mason Powers 15:30.93 (9th in NJCAA).

Weight throw – Trey Taylor, 52-4 ½ (9th in NJCAA).


Weight throw – Emily Burchett, 47-8 ½ (12th in NJCAA).
