MASON CITY – Legislators Sharon Steckman and Amanda Ragan took questions from the public on the proposed cutbacks to Human Rights from Mayor Eric Bookmeyer and the Mason City Council.
“Bookmeyer has continually gone after this office,” said Mason City’s Peter Children, naming a gauntlet of moves instigated by Bookmeyer in bringing the agency down.
Senator Amanda Ragan indicated again, as she has done previously, that she believes in local control of services, versus sending North Iowa folks south to Des Moines for help.
Both Steckman and Ragan indicated they would not get involved in the matter. Both are Mason City residents and said they would not attend a City Council meeting to voice concern.
“This is an issue… you need to talk to the City Council about,” Sharon Steckman said. “Ask them.”

They did fly in on their brooms to have their pictures taken and grace everyone with their presence. What more do you peasents want from them?All hail the queens.
Typical democrats. People need to wake up, they aren’t for the little guy! They took credit for brining 1.5 million to the community for the chamber, that’s local. Matt, keep an eye on these two, you are the only media that will do so and give us the full story.
I expected nothing else of Ragan but thought more of Steckman. Guess I was wrong again.
I guess there is an unwritten rule: If you are in state office, you cant comment or show up at any local government event. We will be watching to see if this taboo is broken.

You asked a very good, very valid question of Ragan and Steckman. And their refusals to go to the city council meeting is their way of agreeing with what the council and mayor want to and intend to do. As typical democratic politicians, they gave a great non answer.
I watched Amanda & Sharon on this video, and I am very unhappy that 2 outstanding citizens of Mason City are afarid to speak up at a council meeting, I for one will think about this next election time……Jim
