Would-be Fed bomber pleads guilty

NEW YORK, Feb. 7 (UPI) — Quazi Mohammad Rezwanul Ahsan Nafis, a Bangladeshi man accused of trying to detonate a bomb outside the New York Federal Reserve Bank, pleaded guilty Thursday.

“I intended to bomb the Federal Reserve Bank in downtown Manhattan,” Nafis told U.S. District Judge Carol Amon in Brooklyn. “I had an intention of committing a violent jihadistic act.”

FBI agents arrested Nafis Oct. 17, 2012, as he attempted to detonate what he thought was a 1,000-pound bomb, which had been supplied by undercover agents, the New York Post reported.

Nafis, 21, told the court he no longer supports “violent jihad and deeply and sincerely regret my involvement in this case.”
