AMES – The NIACC men’s track and field team will participate in four events in the Iowa State Classic Friday.
The Trojans will be competing against several NCAA Division I teams including Iowa State, Northern Iowa, Drake, Kansas State and Wisconsin. All athletes had to qualify for the Iowa State Classic.
Sophomore Jonny Worley (Greene, Ia.) will run in the first heat of the mile at 2:40 p.m. Worley ranks 12th among NJCAA runners in the mile (4 minutes, 25.93 seconds).
Freshman Mason Powers (Gilbert, Ia.) and sophomore Trent Smith (Charles City, Ia.) will run in the 5,000-meter run at 6:05 p.m. Powers runs in heat one and Smith will run in heat two. Smith ranks third among NJCAA runners (14:58.36) and Powers ranks 18th (15:59.08).
The foursome of freshman Matt Bowman (Charlotte, Ia.), sophomore Nako Omot (Worthington, Minn.), sophomore OJ Ojullu (Worthington, Minn.) and Worley will run in heat one of the distance medley relay at 7:10 p.m. The Trojans rank 3rd in the NJCAA (10:33.62).
Sophomore Trey Taylor (Bloomfield, Conn.) will participate in the non-seeded weight throw 2 p.m. Taylor ranks 9th in the NJCAA (52-4 ½).
