SAN ANTONIO, Jan. 24 (UPI) — Prosecutors said Thursday they will not file charges against two University of Texas football players in a sexual assault investigation.
Bexar County first assistant District Attorney Cliff Herberg told the Austin (Texas) American-Statesman, there was not enough evidence to warrant charges against Case McCoy and Jordan Hicks.
“Absent the discovery of additional evidence that would be incriminating, which we don’t anticipate, the case is closed for now,” Herberg said. “We have already reviewed the reports of the case preliminarily and it looks like the police department did a thorough investigation, so we will not be conducting any additional investigation of our own.”
San Antonio police received a report in late December that McCoy and Hicks had allegedly assaulted a woman at a downtown hotel on the eve of the Alamo Bowl. The pair were suspended for the game for violations of team rules.
The two players were reinstated to the team Jan. 13 but face internal disciplinary action.
