COLUMBUS, OH – Iowa trailed by 24 points at one point in second half against Ohio State and couldn’t pull out of the hole, dropping a 73-63 decision to the #14 Buckeyes.
Iowa pulled to within 4 points in the second half and made a game of it, out-rebounding its opponent 40-34, including 22-11 on the offensive glass. Ohio State, however, had nine blocked shots. Over a 7:14 span in the second half, Iowa went on a 20-5 run. Despite trailing by 24 points at the 12:48 mark in the second half, Iowa cut the lead to just four points with 90 seconds left after a free throw from sophomore Aaron White.
White, playing in his home state, led Iowa with 13 points and 7 rebounds. Melsahn Basabe chipped in with 7 points and 10 rebounds.
With just under four minutes to go in the first half, Ohio State led 25-18. Iowa was a miserable 6 for 26 from the floor but held a 10-1 offensive rebounding edge. The Buckeyes led the most important stat – score – however, with a 34-22 lead going into halfime.
Iowa is now 13-6 on the season and 2-4 in Big Ten conference play. Iowa’s next game is Sunday at Purdue.
