TORNILLO, Texas, Jan. 20 (UPI) — A pit bull was shot and killed by sheriff’s deputies in Texas after the dog bit off a 70-year-old woman’s thumb, officials said.
The attack happened Saturday afternoon in Tornillo while the woman, whose name was not reported, was visiting her grandson, the El Paso (Texas) Times reported.
The grandson’s female pit bull attacked the 70-year-old, biting off her thumb, said El Paso County sheriff’s spokeswoman Deputy Angelica Becerra.
When deputies arrived at the scene, the dog was showing signs of aggressiveness and was shot and killed by a deputy, Becerra said.
The woman was taken to a local hospital where doctors said they would try to reattach her thumb, Becerra said.

I’m with Katie & would love to see the DNA report. Manly fell victim to the media sensation of reporting ONLY Pitbull bites. Either report all dog bites or none. You’re making the breed look bad by never reporting any good stories & never negative about other breeds. I worked with animals for years & never had issues with Pitbulls, always other breeds that had issues. I have 3 Pitbulls & they are wonderful dogs. All adopted as adults & all with abusive pasts. Great dogs for my family & very loving.

I’d love to see some of these “pit bulls” DNA-ed to see exactly what breeds they really are. If I lived in Manly and had a “pit bull”, that’s what I’d do. They may turn out to primarily be American Staffordshire or American Bull dog or some other breed. I’m not sure that “pit bull” is even a recognized breed.
I’d like to see some of the owners brain tested.
Barney, pit bulls are dangerous killing machines. They are known to tear the faces off defenseless children and the elderly. Really they are pretty cowardly animals.

@Katie-men are much more dangerous as they will plan to do damage. A dog of any type just reacts to stimulus. That being said, it does seem like there are more and more pit attacks and they are more severe than just mere dog bites.
Pit bulls are not killers! They only kill or bite when they are made angry!
Sort of like a chick with pms. Loving until they’re pissed off. Problem is you never know for sure what’ll pss them off!
