AMES – The NIACC men’s distrance medley relay team qualified for the NJCAA national indoor meet Saturday at the Iowa State Open.
The Trojans’ Matt Bowman (Charlotte, Ia.), Brock Schultz (Rockwell, Ia.), Alex Lugo (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and Jonny Worley (Greene, Ia.) placed 11th in 10 minutes, 33.62 seconds.
The NJCAA qualifying standard for the distance medley relay is 10:37.77.
Sophomore Trent Smith (Charles City, Ia.) placed third in the 5,000 meter run in 14:58 to qualify for the national meet. The NJCAA qualifying standard for the 5,000 is 15:33.94.
On Jan. 12 at the Panther Open in Cedar Falls, Worley qualified for nationals in the 1,000-meter run (2:38.55) and Trey Taylor (Bloomfield, Conn.) qualified in the weight throw (52-4).
The NJCAA national indoor meet is March 1-2 in Lubbock, Texas.
