U.S. official to tour far east, discuss North Korea policy

WASHINGTON – Special Representative for North Korea Policy Glyn Davies will travel to the Republic of Korea (ROK), China, and Japan, January 22-29, for meetings with senior officials in each country to discuss North Korea policy. His delegation will also include Special Envoy for the Six-Party Talks Clifford Hart and National Security Council Director for Korea Sydney Seiler.

Ambassador Davies will be in Seoul, January 23-24, for meetings with senior ROK government officials, including Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Lim Sung-nam and National Security Advisor Chun Yung-woo. He will also meet with the transition team of President-elect Park Geun-hye.

Ambassador Davies will be in Beijing, January 25-26, for meetings with senior Chinese government officials, including Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Affairs Wu Dawei and Vice Minister of the Central Committee International Department Liu Jieyi.

Ambassador Davies will be in Tokyo, January 26-29, for meetings with senior Japanese government officials, including Director-General for Asian and Oceanian Affairs Shinsuke Sugiyama and Assistant Chief Cabinet Secretary Nobukatsu Kanehara.

Ambassador Davies and his delegation will return to Washington, D.C. on January 29.
