Woodbury County, Iowa to get $3 million for road construction

AMES, Iowa – Jan. 15, 2013 – On Tuesday, the Iowa Transportation Commission approved a Revitalize Iowa’s Sound Economy (RISE) grant application submitted by Woodbury County. Up to $3,003,689 will be made available to assist in construction of approximately 9,860 feet of roadway. This includes improvements to 260thStreet (Woodbury County Road D-51), from a point near the Interstate 29 interchange, west to Port Neal Road; intersection and turn lane improvements along Port Neal Road from 259thStreet to 260thStreet; and construction of 259thStreet. This project is anticipated to be completed by November 2014.

The application was approved as a RISE Immediate Opportunity grant for up to $2,100,000 and RISE Local Development grant for up to $903,689, totaling $3,003,689. Funding will come from the county share of the RISE Fund.

The requested improvements are necessary to provide access to the proposed expansion facility of CF Industries Inc.,a fertilizer manufacturing company that will add new state-of-the-art ammonia and granular urea production units.The project will support retention of 110 jobs and creation of 100 jobs, and more than $1.7 billion in associated capital investment.

 

Roadway improvements will also serve 535 acres for future manufacturing and industrial development.
