Pelosi likes Obama’s choice of Jack Lew as Treasury Secretary

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after President Obama announced his intention to nominate White House Chief of Staff Jacob Lew as the next Secretary of the Treasury:

“President Obama has made the right choice in nominating Jack Lew to serve as our nation’s next Secretary of the Treasury – selecting a public servant of dignity and commitment to help spur our economic growth, instill confidence in consumers and the markets, and protect and strengthen the middle class.

“As a senior advisor to Speaker Tip O’Neill, as Director of the Office of Management and Budget, as Deputy Secretary of State, and as White House Chief of Staff, Jack Lew has developed a well-earned reputation as an honest broker and a respected fiscal expert. He knows that our budgets must be statements of our values and our policies must reflect our highest ideals of fairness and opportunity for all.

“We are confident that he will continue our work to carry out the provisions of the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, enacted by Democrats in 2010. We will work together to implement the toughest consumer safeguards in history, preserve the economic security of the middle class, and ensure our markets are the most transparent and most attractive in the world.

“Jack Lew has earned the trust of the President and the respect of his colleagues across government and the private sector. As we thank Secretary Geithner for his tireless and dedicated service to our country, we look forward to a speedy confirmation process for the next Secretary of the Treasury, Jack Lew.”
