MASON CITY – Jan. 11, 2013 – The Iowa Department of Transportation has updated the speed limits in the school zone on U.S. 169 near the Humboldt High and Middle schools.
The Iowa DOT has extended the 40 mph speed zone on U.S. 169 to 200 feet south of Sumner Avenue SW. The Iowa DOT has placed flashing beacons and signs indicating a 30 mph school speed limit in place from 200 feet south of Sumner Avenue SW to 565 feet north of Wildcat Road.
The school speed limit will be in effect for 45 minutes at both the beginning and end of the school day to allow safer travel for students and their families. The flashing beacons will alert drivers when the school speed limit is in effect. The beacons can also be programmed for after school activities.
The public is urged to obey all posted speed limits and use extra caution when traveling in any school zone.
