AMES, Iowa – Iowa State quarterback Jared Barnett and linebacker C.J. Morgan will be transferring to complete their educations and college football careers at schools of their choice, Iowa State head football coach Paul Rhoads announced Friday.
Barnett played in 16 games at Iowa State, completing 162-of-328 passes for 1,825 yards and 12 touchdowns. His greatest game came in the Cyclones’ 37-31 double-overtime win over No. 2 Oklahoma State on Nov. 18, 2011. The Garland, Texas, native completed 31-of-58 passes for 376 yards and three touchdowns to lead Iowa State to its first-ever win over a team ranked in the top six of the AP Poll.
“Jared has had some great games in a Cyclone uniform and we will miss his character in the locker room and on the field,” Rhoads said. “We respect his decision.”
Morgan will be transferring to a school closer to his home.
“C.J. has some family health issues that have made him want to play somewhere near home,” Rhoads said. “Family is always first and we wish him the best.”
Morgan made 12 tackles last season.
