MASON CITY – The Lifelong Learning Institute at North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) announces the list of classes for the spring semester. Registration is open. Spring classes begin January 22 with the Kick-Off coffee.

The Lifelong Learning Institute is a community of adults who learn for the joy of learning without grades, tests, papers or long-term classes.  Members are from cities and towns served by NIACC and from all educational backgrounds. They are also all ages from 30’s to 90’s –all with a common love of learning and a zest for keeping their minds engaged.  The Lifelong Learning Institute provides the perfect way to revisit history, the arts, literature and science while meeting other like-minded adults.  It is a “club for learning.”

Classes are held in Clear Lake, Mason City and Charles City.  A $99 annual membership fee provides Lifelong Learning members the opportunity to sign up for any or all classes for two semesters without additional tuition fees.  Each semester members may choose from approximately 40 class offerings.

“This semester’s class offerings have something for everyone with topics such as: The Vietnam War, The Orphan Train in Iowa, Haiku Poetry, Still Life Oil Painting, Harmonica 101, Creative Writing  and more and more,” said Susan Nagle, Director of the Lifelong Learning Institute.

NIACC’s Lifelong Learning Institute focuses on fun, friendship and college level learning. Members can take advantage of short courses, lectures and discussions, study circles, social events, civic engagement opportunities and more.  Topics for the offerings are based on member requests and interests.

The $99 annual membership fee provides members with benefits such as use of NIACC facilities, library use and orientation,  passes to athletic events; artist chats prior to Performing Arts Series event; career/retirement coaching sessions; college credit course audits at ½ tuition and Continuing Education computer classes at ½ tuition. There is no additional tuition for Lifelong Learning Institute courses and members can register for as many as classes as they like for two semesters.  For more information on NIACC’s Lifelong Learning Institute, visit
