Park Ridge, Ill. – Big Ten men’s gymnastics opens the 2013 season this weekend with three conference teams competing in their first meets of the year on Saturday. Ranked No. 1 in the GymInfo Preseason Coaches’ Poll, Illinois travels to Chicago to take on No. 15 UIC, while No. 9 Nebraska competes in the Rocky Mountain Open in Colorado Springs, Colo., andNo. 4 Penn State hosts No. 13 Army.
Illinois,No. 10 Iowa, No. 2 Michigan, No. 7 Minnesota and No. 8 Ohio State are set to compete in the Windy City Invitational next Saturday, Jan. 19, at 7 p.m. CT. That same day Nebraska heads to Stanford to participate in the Stanford Open, which is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. CT. Penn State also hits the road to compete in the Navy Open in Annapolis, Md., at 1 p.m. CT.
All seven Big Ten teams enter the 2013 season ranked in the top 10 in the GymInfo Preseason Coaches’ Poll, with reigning national champion Illinois leading the way at No. 1. Preseason Big Ten favorite Michigan follows at No. 2, while Penn State enters at No. 4. No. 7 Minnesota, No. 8 Ohio State, No. 9 Nebraska and No. 10 Iowa round out the national top 10.
