Diversity Team sponsoring art/writing contest; open to all of North Iowa

MASON CITY – The North Iowa Diversity Appreciation Team (NIDAT) is sponsoring its 8th annual Art/Writing contest.

This contest is for children K through 12 in North Iowa – as far west as Britt, as far east as Charles City, as far south as Hampton, and as far north as Northwood/Kensett and Lake Mills. This includes both public and private schools and home-schooled students.

The art/writing entry should express what diversity means to the student. Flyers listing details have been distributed to schools throughout North Iowa. Like the North Iowa Diversity Appreciation Team on Facebook for detailed information about the contest.

Entries may be mailed to Hal Minear, Asst. Superintendent of Mason City Community School District, 1515 South Pennsylvania Ave, Mason City, IA 50401. Entries must be received by February 13th, 2013.

There will be first and second place prizes in art and in writing for each level – K-5, 6-8, and 9-12.

First-place art winners will receive an 8×10 plaque of their artwork, along with a page of real usable postage stamps made from the entry.

First-place writing winners will each receive $50 cash.

Second-place prizes for both art and writing will be $25 cash.

All winners will also receive a free copy of a book with all contest entries included. This booklet will also be free to sponsors of the contest, and available for purchase to anyone else. The award program will be held at 5:00 pm at the Music Man Square on March 7, 2013.

Funding provided by the Farrer Endowment Foundation and the Principal Foundation.
