CEDAR RAPIDS – The NIACC women’s basketball team (8-6 overall, 1-0 in ICCAC) saw plenty of Kirkwood Community College at the Illinois Central tournament in the last week of December.
The Lady Trojans placed third and the Eagles claimed the tournament title as the two league rivals did not face each other in the three-day tournament.
The two teams meet at 1 p.m. today in ICCAC action.
At the Illinois Central tournament, the Lady Trojans beat No. 13 South Suburban College 68-55, lost to No. 8 Illinois Central 76-56 and topped No. 1 Lake Michigan College 64-61.
Kirkwood (13-3, 2-0) topped Cincinnati State Technical College (75-60), Lake Michigan (61-41) and Illinois Central (59-41).
“I’m really looking forward to it,” NIACC freshman Jessica Rogers (Osage, Iowa) said of the matchup with Kirkwood. “It’s going to be another aggressive game.
“There’s a little tension there with it being Kirkwood. We’re looking forward to having good practices this week and comiing out strong on Saturday.”
Freshman guard Chelsey Jacox (Plymouth, Minn.) leads the Lady Trojans with 62 assists (2nd in ICCAC) and 40 steals (3rd in ICCAC). She also averages 12.7 points per game (6th in ICCAC).
Kirkwood is led by sophomore forward Kianna Jacobs, who averages 15.1 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.
