Judge Weiland denies murder suspect Farnsworth a delay; trial will go ahead this month

MASON CITY – Judge Colleen Weiland denied a request from murder suspect James Eric Farnsworth for a delay in his trial date.

In denying the the delay, Farnsworth’s trial will go ahead as scheduled on January 14th at 9 AM in Cerro Gordo County District Court.

On April 14th, 2012, it is alleged that Farnsworth stabbed Ian Decker of Mason City to death outside a party on East State Street, near the underpass at Carolina Avenue.

Farnworth, 23, was arrested and charged with 1st degree murder in connection with the stabbing.   Both Ian Decker and James Farnsworth knew each other, and authorities made no further arrests.  Farnsworth has been in his hometown of Waterloo since posted bond and being released form jail.

1st Degree murder is a class A felony.
