From Rep. Linda Upmeyer –

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and look forward to a blessed New Year.  I hope you were able to break free from the hustle and bustle that tends to envelope us during this time of year, and that you were able to spend some time focusing on the most important things in life- making joyful memories with family and friends.  Thank you for the many warm holiday wishes and season’s greetings you have sent our way. I enjoy all the Christmas letters, despite the fact that I almost never manage to write and send one!

It’s hard to believe that in just a few short days, 2012 will draw to a close, and we will ring in 2013.  With that comes new and exciting opportunities and challenges for all of us.  I am looking forward to the new year with anticipation and optimism.  I have much to be thankful for– my wonderful husband, five healthy children and their spouses, three healthy and lively grandsons, and incredible, salt-of-the-earth friends.  I am excited to create more memories with all of them, as well as focus on my duties of representing you in the Iowa Legislature and bringing more opportunities to the great people of this state.

Just as the holiday festivities are winding down, the 2013 legislative session will soon be kicking off.  We begin the next session on Monday, January 14. Don’t forget that session can be viewed via the website in real time; just head to https://www.legis.iowa.gov.  Join us whenever you can.

Throughout the upcoming session, I will continue to focus on Iowans’ priorities – crafting an efficient and effective state budget that does not spend more than the state takes in (ongoing revenue), does not use one-time money for ongoing expenses, and does not intentionally underfund our commitments simply to deal with them down the road.  I will also continue to work on reducing the tax and regulatory burden on the hardworking taxpayers of Iowa, as well as putting people back to work by supporting policies that promote quality job creation.

I look forward to working together, having an open dialogue, and listening to new ideas– all with the goal of making our great state even greater.  I also look forward to forums throughout the district to hear from each of you.  Watch for dates as they are scheduled.

As we near the end of another year, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a very happy and successful year ahead.  May 2013 be a prosperous and joy-filled year for you and yours.

As always, please feel free to contact me anytime with the issues you care about at linda.upmeyer@legis.state.ia.us or 515-281-4618.

While i respect that last persons comments i would maybe think they dont get out very much and see whats going on in our state and our country, I would think having a job like a politician would be very hard though. Can you imagine walking around in parades and shaking hands with the very people that you are ripping off. I cant imagine how you would feel when you tell a stranger that you are a politician and knowing what they think of you. It would take a special person to do that job and be ok with it but what do i know, Im just a honest person !

Im the last one on earth to defend politicians but here goes. I firmly believe that we here in Iowa have honest, hard working representatives who know how to compromise and how to disagree without being disagreable. For the most part they work for the good of Iowa. They are neighbors and friends who don’t become drunk on the Washington power and ego brew. Most that I have worked with from our area, including Linda are honest and genuine. Ok so go shoot me down. Happy New Year!

at the state level I will agree with you. At the federal level I don’t.

@Anonomys-you are absolutely correct in your comments. Why do we continue to elect these people (Not talking about Linda). I think it is because so many people are lazy and vote straight ticket without even knowing who the are voting for. The crooked politicians count on that. That is why they run around trying to get people out to vote. We need to break up the two party system and put in term limits. Also, if we were to cut their wages and benefits they wouldn’t be so eagar to run.

I think what happens is almost everyone hates how congress is conducting business. We all seem to want new congressman except for ours. That plus 75% of all congressional districts were set up by gerrymandering/. Then through in people like Grover Norquist and the American people don’t have a chance. We should have voted out every congressional candidate this year. I don’t know Linda at all. I do know that it seems to me she holds the party line pretty hard. Just like most of them do. The way things are now our representatives are afraid to think for themselves.

It is so depressing just thinking about our politicians getting ready to make major descisions for us. Linda is a good person , but why she wanted to join the crooked politians is beyond me. The political crisis in this country right now shows just how bad these politicians are and are in it just for there own pocketbooks. The sad truth is theres people in our prisons that are more honest and responsible than the people that we have running our country right now !!!!
