India gang rape victim has died

NEW DELHI – Protestors packed streets in India as the female victim of a gang rape on a public bus has died.

It has been reported that the six men accused of attacking the woman, who was a college student, have been charged with murder and could face the death penalty.

The attack of the woman, which left her savagely beaten, has become a rallying point for the treatment of women in India.

It has also been reported in the Washington Post that New Delhi, where the rape occurred, has earned the title of “rape capital” of India, and that violence against women in that country “is widespread and has deep roots.”

In listing the top ten reasons why rape is so widespread in India, the Post listed the “overall lower status of women in Indian society” as a major reason for the rape epidemic there.

“For poor families, the need to pay a marriage dowry can make daughters a burden,” the Post reported.  “India has one of the lowest female-to-male population ratios in the world because of sex-selective abortion and female infanticide. Throughout their lives, sons are fed better than their sisters, are more likely to be sent to school and have brighter career prospects”

Katie-you are correct. Just look at how the Muslims treat their women. It is disgraceful and humiliating. It seems to be that way in a good portion of the world.

It is pathetic how 3rd world countries treat women and each other. You would think in a country where there are more men than women that men would be vying for women by seeing who could treat them the best and give their families the most. Supply and demand doesn’t work right in their country!

Supply and demand works fine in India. The brides family supplies the dowry and the grooms family supplies the breadwinner of the family.
