Charles City and Mason City police work together to investigate burglaries

CHARLES CITY – On the morning of December 17th, 2012, the Charles City Police Department (CCPD) took reports from 3 residents that their house had been burglarized on the south side of town. Numerous items were taken from the residences. It was reported the houses were entered during the overnight hours of December 16th-17th. All three houses were occupied during the burglaries.

The CCPD also took reports of attempted burglaries during the same time period. Either entry was not gained or nothing was taken during these reports.

On 12-23-2012, the Charles City Police Department executed a search warrant on a residence in the 600 block of South Jackson Avenue in Mason City. Several items relating to one of the burglaries were seized by officers. The Mason City Police Department assisted the CCPD in executing the search warrant.

Following this investigation, the CCPD then applied for a search warrant for a residence in the 900 block of D Street in Charles City. The warrant was executed and more evidence from one burglary was seized. Illegal narcotics were also seized and the Department of Human Services was notified on that date.

The Charles City Police Department did arrest and charge Matthew Ward, 25, Charles City, with aiding and abetting 2nd degree burglary, a class C felony. He was arrested on December 23, 2012 and taken to the Floyd County jail. He was released by the magistrate the next day.

The investigation continues and an arrest warrant has been requested on a subject from Mason City. Other charges are pending involving the case. The Charles City Police Department was assisted by the Floyd County Sheriffs Office and the Mason City Police Department during the investigation into this case.
