Mischief kills nearly 475 Iowa pigs

The Sioux county, Iowa sheriff’s department says mischief killed about 475 pigs in a hog confinement.

On Wednesday, December 19, at 1:00 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a report of criminal mischief that occurred at a hog confinement on Elmwood Avenue, five miles south of Rock Valley, IA.

This crime occurred between Tuesday, December 18, at 3:00 p.m. and Wednesday, December 19, at 1:00 p.m. The perpetrator(s) entered the building and caused the death of approximately 475 pigs by tampering with the climate control system. The pigs weighed approximately 280 lbs.

That was a lot of money to the owner. If it was one of those animal rights people it should be made known and they should go to jail for a long, long time.

LVS, why would “animal rights” people want pigs to suffer & die? That’s not what they’re about.

@My Opinion-anaimal rights people just want to disrupt and shut down all pig operations. They probably didn’t mean to kill the pigs, just cause trouble for the owners. That is if they were the ones that did it and that has not been proven.

I hope they catch whoever did this and sentence him to prison.

Katie, why are you assuming it was a male? Women do crimes as well.

I too would like to see whoever did this pay for his crime. I think indentured service needs to be brought back to the state. They can’t pay restitution sitting in prison. Lock the perp up with the hogs and make him feed them, clean the poop until the farmer has been made whole.
