Union Members present petitions to Latham

STATEMENT FROM KEN SAGAR, PRESIDENT OF THE IOWA FEDERATION OF LABOR, AFL-CIO:

As part of the ongoing effort by the unions in Iowa, around 500 petitions were delivered to Congressman Tom Latham this week.

The petitions stated: “I didn’t vote this year for further attacks on the middle class. That’s why I’m calling on you to end the Bush tax cuts for the richest 2% and opposing any cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid benefits.”

“Once again Congress is attempting to throw the middle class out with the bath water.” said Ken Sagar. ” Americans sent a clear message with the re-election of President Obama, and that message is they wanted an end to the Bush tax cuts for the richest 2% and keep your hands off Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.”

I am all for giving someone a hand up program but not a had out program.

Let’s also not forget about the voting people below middle class. It’s hard to put a dollar sign ($) on the middle class, but everyone below that class is effected to.
