Woman takes car on several hour test drive; warned by police

DaLayne Reporting Vehicle that was not returned

by Jody Spear and Kelly Meyer –

A Mason City Police officer took a report from DaLayne Germundson, owner of Mason City Auto Sales, Thursday afternoon when a car that was being test drove wasn’t returned.

Jessica Lynn Lipp, 30, of Mason City asked to test drive a black 1999 Mercury Courgar around 1:30 pm and never brought it back.

Lipp asked if she could take the car to Rockford, at the time she signed to test drive it. Germundson said, “I told her not to, that the weather was too bad.  To please, just stay in town. The phone number she gave me is a fake too.”

“She called about a half hour hour ago saying that she was at a gas station and that she’d bring it right in. I haven’t seen her yet,” Germundson said at around 4:35 pm.

About an hour later, the car was found in downtown Mason City near Dollar General.

Mason City police officers got the keys, but DaLayne has to have it towed back to his lot. He said it was full of snow and was driven quite a bit.

DaLayne said, “It was supposed to be a twenty minute test drive. I got the keys back but she did something to it.”

Mason City police told the girl that if she came back to Mason City Auto, she would get cited for criminal trespassing.
