Time magazine has chosen President Barack Obama for its 2012 Person of the Year.
Obama has been selected for the second time, the first coming in 2008.
“We are in the midst of historic cultural and demographic changes, and Barack Obama is both the symbol and in some ways the architect of this new America,” Time said Wednesday. “In 2012, he found and forged a new majority, turned weakness into opportunity and sought, amid great adversity, to create a more perfect union.”
Time attributed Obama’s 2012 presidential election victory to “the nation’s changing demographics and Obama’s unique ability to capitalize on them. When his name is on the ballot, the next America — a younger, more diverse America — turns out at the polls.”
Obama has caused Republicans to take a hard look at the fundamentals of their party and how it appeals to young people and minorities. Some say the Republican party is now divided.
