Bad trend: More people moving out of Iowa than moving in

A survey conducted by the United States Census Bureau shows that more people are moving out of Iowa than moving in.

The survey, called the American Community Survey, shows that in 2011, 74,516 moved out of the state while 70,405 moved in.

Much of Iowa is fighting a trend of declining population, especially western Iowa and rural areas of the state.  Several metro areas continue to grow at a rapid pace, however.

Been that way for years. I can remember when Mason City was a booming little city of close to 30,000.

Why? Branstad, Steve King, Bob Vander Plaats, Hog Factories and Chuck Grassley.

A better question is, why is anybody staying?

It is all about jobs. Jobs that pay a decent wage.

Mason City has a bunch of losers in charge of that department. I don’t expect much for Mason City.

We’re out too. We moved here about 10 years ago; leaving in the spring. Double salaries and legal weed, here we come. Rocky mountain high…
