MASON CITY – NIACC sophomore shortsop Reynaldo Sala signed a national letter of intent to play baseball at Campbellsville University, a NAIA school in Campbellsville, Ky.
Sala, who is from the Dominican Republic, hit .303 with an ICCAC-leading 27 stolen bases, eight doubles, one triple and two home runs during his freshman season in 2012. He also had a fielding percentage of .941 with 134 assists.
Campbellsville University was 37-18 in 2012.
Sala is the eighth current NIACC player to sign with a four-year school. Seven NIACC players signed letters of intent in November – six signed with NCAA Division I schools and one signed with a NCAA Division II school.
Right-handed pitcher Lucas Bakker signed with Elon University, right-handed pitcher Jeremy Cronk signed with Ohio University, and right-handed pitcher AJ Elderkin and infielder Hunter King signed with University of North Carolina-Greensboro.
Also, right-handed pitcher Ean McNeal and catcher Robert Swenson signed with Chicago State. Infielder Max Waletich signed with NCAA Division II Minnesota State.
NIACC, which was 37-21 in 2012, opens its 2013 season March 2-3 at Lewis and Clark Community College in Alton, Ill.
