UPDATED: Dec. 14th 4:20 PM – Cerro Gordo County Attorney Carlyle Dalen confirmed that Bryon Sletton of Mason City was charged in district court Friday with an aggravated misdemeanor regarding the domestic assault arrest on December 9th. Dalen said that only in the case where the victim suffers “bodily injury” can felony D charges be brought.
Sources told NIT that Sletton’s victim suffered “swelling in neck muscle, bruising various places on body (shoulder, elbow, knees, forearms), muscle tear of previous surgical incision in chest.” The source also said that when the victim called her regular physician, “they directed (her) to the ER.”

MASON CITY – A Mason City man was arrested Sunday morning after a domestic incident.
Bryon Michael Sletten, 46, was arrested at a location in the 600 block of South Connecticut Avenue by Mason City police at about 1:20 AM Sunday. He was charged with aggravated domestic assault by strangulation. Police could not release details on the condition of the victim.
Sletton was arrested after another violent exchange earlier this month after a fight in downtown Mason City. Police said Sunday that they had witnessed Sletten engaged in an altercation on December 1st with a man named John Smith at the 200 block of North Federal Avenue in an alley. Sletten was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
Sletton is a convicted felon who has served time in Iowa penitentiaries. He owes the courts thousands of dollars in unpaid fines, fees and restitution. His record includes convictions due to harassment, assault, operating while intoxicated, driving while barred, theft, probation violations and more.
