IA SEN: Revenue growth points to balanced budget while investing education, job creation and closing work skills gap

State capitol of Iowa

Statement by Senate Appropriations Chair Bob Dvorsky on latest revenue estimates –

“Iowa’s rising state revenues are another sign that our response to the national recession is working. Now is the time to make sure middle-class Iowa families and Main Street businesses benefit from a lasting economic recovery.”

“As Senate Democrats look forward to the next state budget, we invite Governor Branstad and Republican legislators to join in a bipartisan effort to balance the state budget without raising taxes while investing in expanding educational opportunity, creating jobs, and filling the skills gap for Iowa workers.”

i THINK THE 101 MILLION DOLLAR remodeling of the Iowa Historical building will eat up any excess money and delay property tax reducions till Bumstead gets out of office.

I believe the $400 million has to do with the state employee retirement fund. We can’t afford to pay them.

I guess I am not understanding this state budget business. How can the State have a balanced budget when not 3 weeks ago the paper stated the State was 400 million in the hole. Is this one of those “creative” stories the “guvmint” is always throwing out there???
